The Solo Albums (1971-1976)
(Click on album covers for more information)
Peter Hammill's first solo album was Fool's Mate, which remains my favourite album, my desert island disk. The songs were all written during Van der Graaf Generator's first phase from 1968-1971 and the album released in 1971. I bought my first copy in 1972. I gave that copy to a departing girlfriend. It had spent most of it's life up to that point on my turntable. I suspect that after being given away it didn't see the light of day again. Quite sad really. Needless to say the next day I obtained a replacement, but I missed the old scratches.
